Do people get paid to leave stupid answers?

Whenever someone asks a question about watching a movie or tv show online every answer is to some crap site where you have to fill out surveys and do a trial offer. The answerer is always so smug when they give away this worthless knowledge too. What gives? Why do these people waste their time?
